LARP gaming is just like playing make-believe as you may have as a child. In GALAXY AWAITS, you pretend to live in the Star Wars universe; acting, speaking, and dressing as a persona of your design. You will be surrounded by other Players doing the same, learning about each other, and the plot, as you play within the interactive game space.
Your level of involvement is up to you. If you wait for activities to come to you, you will be bored and likely left alone for the sake of not making you feel uncomfortable. If you want something to do, you must initiate that by talking to other Characters, joining a Faction or Guild, doing Missions, and getting yourself involved.
F A Q
Frequently Asked Questions
WYSIWYG?
WYSIWYG, or what you see is what you get, means everything and everyone you see within the gameplay area is to be considered "in the game" or In-Game (IG). Narration and descriptive storytelling is never used. Use actions, props, decoration, etc. to create a visual and physical simulation to immerse you and other players into the game world.
Still, some imagination is needed to pretend a foam led bat is a real lightsaber, or a friend wearing a creature mask is a real alien.
How much about Star Wars do I need to know?
You can play GALAXY AWAITS without seeing any Star Wars, though we do recommend the film, Star Wars Episode III: Revenge of the Sith, as a must-see since the In-Game timeline is set 10 years after. The film, Solo: A Star Wars Story, and the series Andor and Obi-Wan Kenobi are also highly recommended.
If you're interested in more, we also reference material from the following media:
- Star Wars Episode I: Phantom Menace (film)
- Star Wars Episode II: Attack of the Clones (film)
- Star Wars: The Clone Wars (animated series)
- Star Wars: The Bad Batch (animated series)
- Star Wars Jedi: Fallen Order (video game)
- Star Wars Jedi: Survivor (video game)
- Star Wars Rebels (animated series)
- Rogue One: A Star Wars Story (film)
What is canon for Galaxy Awaits?
All of Star Wars movies, shows, books, comics, and games that are part of "Disney canon" taking place before 9 BBY (the current In-Game date) are considered canon for GALAXY AWAITS.
Information and events from Legends/EU are NOT canon for GALAXY AWAITS. Sometimes players may reference them – for instance, if they are playing a species with little canon information or description. However, do not assume that Staff and other Players will treat these references as canon, since they are just that: Legends.
Can I play X?
Cosplaying a Star Wars character is not for Galaxy Awaits. Instead, you are creating a unique character for the game and as long as your character fits within the timeline, you can play almost any canon species or archetype you would like so long as it is listed on our website under
DATACRON.
All characters must be submitted and approved by Staff to play. See
CHARACTER SUBMISSION to get started!
I want to play X species, but I don't know how to costume it.
If you are playing a non-human species, please review the
SPECIES LIST for specific makeup requirements for you to look like the species as realistically as possible. Don't worry! We don't require shaving beards or any other real-life body alterations. If you want to, great! But certainly not required.
See
COSTUME GUIDELINES for more information.
Can I have a history with my favorite Star Wars character?
While Star Wars characters, such as Obi-wan Kenobi and Han Solo, exist within the universe and are referenced in the game, we ask that you not tie yourself to these characters beyond a passing familiarity. For instance, all Inquisitors are acquainted with Darth Vader and the Grand Inquisitor but do not have a strong personal relationship with them, and many former Jedi would have been familiar with well-known members of the Order such as Yoda or Mace Windu without knowing them closely.
Do I need to provide my own LARP equipment and costuming?
The short answer is that unless you signed up for Full Time NPC for the weekend, yes. You need to provide your own costuming, LARP safe melee weapons, blasters, required props, and so on. If you cannot do this, we recommend reaching out to the community on Discord or Facebook – oftentimes an existing player will have extra items they may be willing to lend you for the weekend. However, this is not a guarantee and you would need to work that out with them directly in advance of the event.
See the
RULEBOOK or
COSTUME GUIDELINES for more information.
I have a dietary restriction or allergy. Can I still join the Meal Plan?
The offered Meal Plan has three menus, 1) standard meat, vegetable, and dairy, or 2) vegetarian as the same as standard without the meat, and 3) gluten-free as the same as standard using gluten-free ingredients. If your dietary restrictions are beyond the Meal Plan menus, Staff is unable to accommodate you, please bring your own meals for the event.
Some players will bring and store their own food in the kitchen area, and Staff cannot confirm that those foods will not contain common allergens such as peanuts.
If you are intending to bring your own food, only the microwave is available for use. The rest of the kitchen equipment and items are only to be used by members of Kitchen Staff or the volunteers assisting them.
Meal Plan menus are available on Tickets & Info pages starting under
EVENTS.
What are the lodging accomodations? What should I bring?
Weekend-long events are held at venues with a heated dining hall common space, bathrooms and showers, and enclosed cabins with electricty, heat, and bunks.
Common encouraged items to pack for any LARP are numerous socks, a pillow, a sleeping bag or blankets, toiletries, an unlabeled/setting-appropriate water bottle, easy to carry snacks, and comfortable shoes with good ankle support.
Specifically for Galaxy Awaits, we recommend a smartphone or other WiFi-capable device, chargers, spare ammo for your blaster if you are using one, a flashlight with red / green / blue light, a king-sized sheet as a bunk curtain, and other various Star Wars inspired props and cabin decoration.
Day games and community gatherings may be held at a park or someone's home. These will be detailed on the Info page for that event.
The venue location is listed on the Tickets & Info pages starting under
EVENTS.
