GALAXY AWAITS requires all participants to wear an appropriate-for-Star Wars costume. You are encouraged to create your own design, however, please follow these guidelines.
Star Wars boasts a wealth of costuming ideas from the ever expanding library of films and series. Of those, focus on Solo: A Star Wars Story, Andor, Obi-Wan Kenobi, and The Bad Batch.
*** FIRST STEPS: A DETAILED STAR WARS COSTUME GUIDE ***
Common costumes are earth-toned and muted colors of multiple garments for a layered look. Consider that your Character's Species, Faction, Role, and history may inspire your outfit design. Your costume should also be rugged enough to withstand a weekend of in/outdoor LARPing activities, as well as the weather.
When choosing shoes, we value comfort over style for physical activity over a weekend. We do ask for shoes to be black or un-noticable muted colors, with no real-world logos whenever possible.
Don't worry! We don't require shaving beards, cutting hair, or any other real-life body alterations. If you want to, great! But certainly not required.
If you are playing an ALIEN, please review the SPECIES LIST for specific makeup requirements for you to look like the alien as realistically as possible. For Aliens with non-Human skin colors, we recommend two-piece body suits as a base layer. Don't worry! We don't require shaving beards or any other real-life body alterations. If you want to, great! But certainly not required.
A DROID Character must be humanoid using a full body costume, usually with a helmet. You can cosplay a droid seen in Star Wars, or design your own unique Droid, keeping in mind comfort for a weekend. We recommend pattern-printed two-piece body/zentai suits as a base layer.
RC droids cannot be Characters, but you can bring them as props for your Character.
Cosplay puppets, as seen here, are not permitted.
Weapons are a huge part of Star Wars, but you are not required to have one to play GALAXY AWAITS. Your Character must have the appropriate Skill for the type of weapon i.e. the Blaster Skill to use a foam dart shooter. For light-touch combat, GALAXY AWAITS uses realistic foam swords, foam-padded lightsabers, and low-powered foam dart shooters. All weapons must meet the WEAPON SPECIFICATIONS found in the Rulebook, and pass Safety Staff inspection at each event.
Props serve a variety of purposes in GALAXY AWAITS, adding to the believability of being in the Star Wars universe. Think about the stuff you own and imagine your Character owning similar items in Star Wars. These so-called deco props are optional. Required props are those that represent a Tagged Item defined in the Rulebook under Augments, Consumables, Equipment, and Relics.
Read additional details on Weapons and Props in the RULEBOOK.
Wearing armor increases your Character's hit points as detailed in the RULEBOOK.
If you wish to wear armor, your armor's appearance may be determined by your Character's Faction, Role, and culture. You can use any material so long as the end result looks like the real thing. Thanks to light-touch combat, real armor is not necessary. EVA foam, 3D prints, sintra board, and the like are all acceptable materials for use.
Note that Star Wars-replica armor and helmets, such as Stormtrooper armor and Mandalorian helmets, offer special bonuses found in the RULEBOOK. The material they are made of doesn't matter, just the look of the finished piece.
COLORS: Black, Red, White, Gray, Tan, Olive Green
If you are a member of the Empire Faction, please adhere to the dress code as seen in Star Wars movies, and as defined by your Role. However, there is room to creatively modify your costume to suit the needs of LARPing for a weekend.
As seen in Star Wars movies, Imperial Officers wear plain black, tan, green, or gray uniforms based on their division, and accessorized with distinct belt buckles, hats, and armor. Rank insignia placques are defined on this RANK CHART.
Also seen in Star Wars movies, standard Stormtroopers wear black jumpsuits with full body white armor from helmet to shin guards. Other Trooper variants include Scout Trooper, Mud Trooper, and Death Trooper to name a few canon examples.
Each Inquisitor wears an outfit uniquely designed based on individual preferences, though all Inquisitor outfits are black, with optional red. Some Inquisitors choose to wear accessory garments such as cape, armor, mask, cloak, to name a few.
Notably seen in Andor, the ISB uniform uses the same design as Imperial Military officers, but with a different color theme. Black pants with a white jacket and a rank insignia placque as listed on the RANK CHART. ISB accessories are the same belt buckles, hats, and armor, as Military officers. Of course if you are playing an undercover ISB agent, wear the costume you've decided for your cover.
As politicians, COMPNOR enjoys a freedom to dress how best fits the situation they are working in, choosing garments from military uniforms to citizen plainsclothes. One of the goals of COMPNOR is to appeal to the local people by fitting in while still representing the Empire.
