IN-GAME DATE
September 21, 9 AFE (10 BBY)Belanor - Capital of Valen
Formerly a quiet fishing town built on stilts above the marshy shore of the Belanor Bay, this community sprung to prominance on Valen a few centuries ago, around the time the Herolds begin to operate. The government had previously been stationed at what is now Zairon, but relocated as the Herolds began to gain influence in local matters. The town reflects the feel of being hastily converted to a new purpose, with many official buildings being converted warehouses and a cannery. While they may look better after so many years of improvements, a careful eye will see the utilitarian nature of the underlying construction.
The town still thrives on aquaculture, as the Kallea's Strait and the channels outside Belanor's harbor are home to a wide variety of sealife and underwater plants that people find useful. The city often tries to impress other regions and cities with the quality and variety of cuisines and aqua-based crafts, but other regions tend to hold a slight edge due to their greater wealth. Belanorians grumble a bit when these outsiders treat them like younger siblings, commenting on how cute or quaint their cuisine and city are.
Kal Serine
One of the younger stable communities on Selvaris, Kal Serine is a rare example of Regressives trying to integrate with the rest of the planet. Formerly a hidden compund in the forests, they have since expanded and made open their community, even allowing some services like medical and power inferstructure to be installed. Outsiders have come to this town in search of rare materials, following rumors of wealth or miraculous flora and fauna in the forests and mountains to the west.
The residents of Kal Serine are trying to be open to these new technologies and conviences, but are finding the patronizing attitudes of the outsiders hard to bare. Incidents between locals and visitors are common, and the local Army garrison is actually being kept busy suplimenting the town's peace keepers.
No evidence exists to show there is anything of such value in the western half of Valen, but that doesn't stop people from continuing to use this former Regressive stronghold as a jumping off point for their excursions. Sometimes they even return.
Zairon
This city is home to a spiritual organization, known as the Herolds of Axiom, a group that has shown a strong desire to spread their message, as well as their corner of the region be recognized as separate from the rest of Valen and be self-governing. They have recently been sending out emissaries to the different regions on the planet in an effort to recruit a large membership, with a particular emphasis on several Regressive clans. Their messages of natural order, entropy, and self-reliance is finding a toehold in some of these clans, as well as many individuals in various communities. The Herolds are keeping their actual goals close to their chest, and as a result speculation as to their real motives runs across the gambit from plausible to fantastical.
As for the city itself, Zairon is a place of two parts. The regions to the west and south, along the forest and coast areas, are typical of frontier towns the galaxy over, with a combination of pre-fab and rustic construction. While the section to the east, among the slopes and cliffs of the East Banu Mountains, is the home of the Herolds. Their official and ceremonial buildings make use of natural formations to construct and conceal the actual sizes of these edifices, and the region is developing a much more built up and long term appearance than the rest of the city.
